Jamaica’s Prime Minister, The Most Honourable Andrew Holness, recently awarded alumnus Arthur Williams ’16 with the Youth Award for Excellence in the International Achievement category, acknowledging Williams’ accomplishments while at Hamilton and in the years following his graduation.

Hamilton will welcome two prominent visiting professors for the spring 2018 semester. Nicholas Rostow will serve as the Sol M. Linowitz Visiting Professor of International Affairs, and Gwen Dordick has been named Distinguished Lecturer in American Public Policy and Practice.

Jack Wright ’19, last year’s winner of the Adirondack Council’s Wilderness Writing Contest, collected on his prize of an airplane flight over the Adirondacks on April 23. He was chosen based on a letter he wrote to Gov. Andrew Cuomo expressing reasons why the state should expand the High Peaks Wilderness area.

Dan Fielding ’07: My biggest piece of advice for current students or people just starting their careers is that you should intern and/or volunteer. Show up on time and demonstrate that you are willing to put in the effort and ask questions.

New York Times quoted Professor of Economics Paul Hagstrom and referenced his research focused on refugees in a Feb. 22 article in the Times titled “A Surprising Salve for New York’s Beleaguered Cities: Refugees.”

Louisa Stone’s ’17 internship this summer combined her passion for social justice with her goal of pursuing a career in public policy and legislation.

Jeremy Mathurin, the Class of 2016 Commencement speaker, immediately put his public policy concentration to use as a consultant at Deloitte D.C., the largest professional services firm in the world.

Kareem Watson ’16, a public policy major at Hamilton, has received the Humanity In Action Fellowship for travel to Berlin this summer. He is the first Hamilton student to receive this award. The fellowship recognizes commitment to social justice and future promise for community leadership. Humanity in Action is an international educational organization headquartered in New York City.

Genevieve Caffrey ’17 recently completed a summer internship with one office of the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&PI), under the Department of Children and Families, in Cranford, NJ. Caffrey’s internship was supported by the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center through a Levitt Public Service Internship Award, awards which provide funding to students taking up unpaid or minimally-paid summer work focused on public service.

Tyler Lovejoy ’16 is interning this summer at a small startup restaurant in Pittsburgh with a unique approach to workforce hiring: a completely free job training program that “will introduce participants to the urban agriculture, world class culinary/restaurant experience and skills necessary to excel in these fields.” He is  a workforce development advisor to Kevin Sousa, the owner and operator of the Superior Motors restaurant.
