Of all the Hamilton programs interrupted by the pandemic, off-campus study was perhaps the most severely affected. However, this semester, students are once again pursuing academic interests far away from the Hill. To understand how Hamilton’s programs are readjusting, we asked Assistant Dean of Off-Campus Study Carolyn North and several students located around the world. Below are some of their thoughts.

In Hamilton’s annual Constitution Day lecture, Amherst College Professor Austin Sarat delivered a talk titled “Everyone Knows That American Democracy Is in Trouble: But Maybe Donald Trump Is Not to Blame.” Sarat’s presentation cataloged the demonstrable deterioration of American democracy, focusing in particular on evidence gathered prior to the Trump presidency

Assistant Professor of Classics Amy Koenig recently published an article in the journal Greek and Roman Musical Studies.

Brent Rodriguez-Plate, professor of religious studies by special appointment, and Kasia Stempniak, a visiting assistant professor of French and Francophone Studies, will be supported in their research by the newly established Dr. Edgardo Yordán Humanities Faculty Endowment.

Professor of Africana Studies Heather Merrill gave a lecture titled “Being Italian: The Peculiar Journey of Blackness” to an international audience of students and faculty connected with the School or Architecture at Syracuse University, Florence on Sept. 9.

Hamilton’s Economics Department received one of Insight into Diversity’s 2021 Inspiring Programs in STEM Awards in recognition of its major curricular reforms designed to attract and retain underrepresented students.
