  • Volunteers from the Hamilton College community visited 12 sites on Saturday, Jan. 25, for the 5th annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Service Project. Individual students, staff, and student organizations participated in the day-long projects at non-profit organizations around Utica. More than 200 people participated. All of the sites this year were in Utica (Children's Museum, Hope House, Emmaus House, Thea Bowman House, Salvation Army, the Cosmo Center, Elder Life, the Loretto Center, Martin Luther Homes, JCTOD, Boys and Girls Club, United Cerebral Palsy, and a tutorial on campus for around 50 students from Donovan Middle and Proctor High School).

  • The Hamilton College Alumni Council has established an award that will honor a College employee. The Distinguished Service Award will "recognize an employee who has substantially contributed to Hamilton through distinguished performance in his or her position and through involvement in student, alumni or other activities in the College community." Active employees in all departments will be eligible for the award. Employees can be nominated for the award by The Alumni Council's Nominations Committee.

  • The Hamilton College Choir will present Stephen Sondheim’s often overlooked "Merrily We Roll Along," on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7 and 8, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, "Merrily We Roll Along" is a musical comedy in two acts, based on the Kaufman and Hart play of the same name.

  • Professor of Chinese Hong Gang Jin chaired a panel on The Role of Psycholinguistic and Cognitive Strategies in Chinese Language Instruction and Acquisition at the ACTL 2002 in November in Salt Lake City. At the same panel, she presented a paper on " The Role of Formulaic Speech in Teaching and Learning Patterned Chinese Structures." She was elected to the Board of Directors of the Chinese Language Teachers' Association (CLTA). She will serve on the board from 2002-2005.

  • Hamilton College is one of seven Mohawk Valley colleges that will participate in a new Cross-Registration Program, which will enable students at the schools to take courses at each of the other schools in the program. The program is part of a new Mohawk Valley College Consortium sponsored by Oneida County and announced by Oneida County Executive Ralph Eannace on Jan. 23. The program will begin in the Fall 2003 semester.

  • It's time to sign up for the annual America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk, being held this year on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Utica College. Run as a team, walk with your friends, make this a team challenge! There are many ways to participate, from the 30k run to the 3 mile walk. Last year's team raised $6,454 with 89 participants, and this year's organizers, Marylyn Nassimos and Kelly Walton, are confident Team Hamilton can raise even more money this year.

  • Robert M. Colley, a 1966 graduate of Hamilton College, has been appointed associate dean of marketing and distance education at University College of Syracuse University. He will oversee the college’s marketing, advertising, public relations and publications efforts. Colley will also direct the college’s development of distance and online programs.

  • An event-filled weekend celebrating the tradition of ice hockey at Hamilton will be held Feb. 21-23 on the Hill. Activities will include men's varsity games against Colby and Bowdoin and an Alumni Hockey Game. A highlight of the weekend will be the retirement of former Continental goaltender Guy Hebert's jersey. A 1989 graduate, Hebert went on to become the Anaheim Mighty Ducks' first overall pick in the 1993 expansion draft. He is the franchise's leader in games, wins, starts, minutes, saves and shutouts. Hebert is currently the Mighty Ducks Alumni Association director.   • Members of the Hamilton College community will remember and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy during the 5th annual Community Service Project on Saturday, January 25. Volunteers will spend the day at such organizations as Elder Life, the Cosmopolitan Center and Salvation Army doing cleaning, painting and activities with the elderly.
