Members of Hamilton’s Class of 2024 have walked off the Commencement stage, canes in hand, and out into the world ready to make a difference.

In an op-ed appearing in The Hill, President David Wippman and Cornell professor Glenn Altschuler discussed Oklahoma’s law targeting “critical race theory” and how it forbids teaching students about historic events including the Tulsa Massacre, one of the worst instances of racially motivated violence in U.S. history.

Riley Nichols ’21 will be taking a position as a progressive education fellow at Buxton School this fall. Here, Nichols describes her passion for education and how it was shaped by her time at Hamilton.

At last Saturday’s Commencement, Diamond Jackson’s ’21 four busy years at Hamilton came to an end. She served as the chair of the C. Christine Johnson Voices of Color Lecture Series, co-president of the Black & Latinx Student Union, supervisor at the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE), HEOP summer residential assistant, and as a student researcher, completing Emerson, Kirkland, and Levitt Center projects.

Twelve Hamilton students joined Nichols in developing and delivering weekly lessons exploring age-appropriate topics in philosophy with groups of Clinton elementary and middle school students.

Ty Kunzman ’20 plans to celebrate his Hamilton graduation by heading right back to school. In June he’ll begin work on his Master of Education in Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education at the University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education and Development.

Edgar Otero ’20 will be joining Urban Teachers in Washington, D.C. As part this program, Otero will complete a residency to become certified to teach full-time and obtain a master’s degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Education.

Meredith Madden, visiting assistant professor of Education Studies, recently published an article in the journal Equity & Excellence in Education

Meredyth Ohringer ’17, who is about halfway through a graduate program in early childhood education, remembers when her interest in teaching crystallized. It was during an internship while she was in Hamilton’s New York City Program.

Emily Liu ’19, a creative writing major and education studies minor, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Taiwan.
