Professor and author Robin Wall Kimmerer offered students, faculty, and community members gathered in the Chapel a profound testimony regarding the decolonization of the environmentalist movement. The author of the national bestseller Braiding Sweetgrass came to College Hill to deliver this year’s Plant Lecture.

What started as an endeavor to reduce unnecessary waste 15 years ago now provides five community organizations with sizable donations at the end of every spring semester.

A paper titled “Carbon neutrality should not be the end goal: Lessons for institutional climate action from U.S. higher education,” co-authored by Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies Aaron Strong, appears in the September issue of the journal One Earth.

Hamilton College has installed 20 electric car charging stations at various locations throughout the campus as shown on the map above. They have been available for use by the campus and community free of charge since April 15.

Hundreds of Hamilton students joined their counterparts around the world to participate in the Global Climate Strike on Sept. 20. Organized by representatives from a number of student groups, Hamilton’s climate strike attracted droves of students and Hamilton community members calling for action on environmental issues.

This year, Earth Day got a whole lot of love. Hamilton Sustainability Coordinators (HSC) decided that this year, Earth Day could not just be celebrated on April 22. Hence, “Green Week.” From April 20-26, they hosted Green Week, a week-long series of events to honor our planet and bring attention to environmental issues.

Happy bargain hunters left this year’s Cram & Scram program with everything from small appliances and school supplies to room furniture and decor.

The Hamilton in NYC Program is off to a busy and exciting start. On Jan. 31, the group met with David Maddox, founder and director of the Nature of Cities, “an international platform to share diverse, transformative ideas about cities as ecosystems of people, nature, and infrastructure.”

The Hamilton Environmental Action Group (HEAG) led 30 Hamilton students to Washington, D.C. for the People's Climate March on Saturday, April 29. This student-organized and student-led trip started with 1 a.m. departure from campus to reach D.C. in time for the march.
