Janice Kang '20 knew she wanted to pursue graduate school ever since coming to Hamilton, and four years of chemistry classes and a number of research opportunities — including one that led her to co-authoring a paper — only confirmed that desire. After graduation, she will begin work toward her Ph.D. in chemistry at Northwestern University.

Professor of Chemistry, emeritus, Robin Kinnel recently published research involving new methodologies for discovery of natural products with potential biological activity on the American Chemical Society website.

The College/Environmental Studies 220 classes, taught by Onno Oerlemans and Robin Kinnel recently made their annual trek into the Adirondacks to see firsthand some of what they’ve been studying and to experience some of the beauty of the area.

Ten women participating in summer research in the Hamilton College Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics departments have been recognized as Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Research Scholars. Funded through a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation and matching funds from Hamilton College, these awards provide stipends and funding for equipment, supplies, and travel to encourage women to either begin or continue research projects in the three disciplines.

Members of Robin Kinnel’s Environmental Studies 220 class, “The Cultural and Natural Histories of the Adirondacks,” took a whirlwind tour of the area they are studying when they visited the Adirondacks the weekend of Sept. 26-27.

Robin Kinnel, the Silas D. Childs Professor of Chemistry emeritus and lecturer in chemistry, was the co-author of an article published on July 24 in the Journal of Natural Products.

Organic chemistry research students from Hamilton, Colgate University and Hobart and William Smith Colleges convened to report on their summer research on July 8 when Hamilton’s chemistry department hosted the annual meeting of the Summer Organic Research Symposium (SmORS).

A group of 16 organic chemistry research students and their faculty mentors, Professors Ian Rosenstein, Max Majireck and Robin Kinnel, traveled to Colgate University to participate in the annual Summer Organic Research Symposium on July 1.
