Hamilton students who conducted grant-funded research with faculty this summer showed off the results of their work at a recent poster session.

Members of Hamilton’s Class of 2024 have walked off the Commencement stage, canes in hand, and out into the world ready to make a difference.

Ann Owen, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of Public Policy and Professor of Economics, recently presented a paper in Madrid at the Conference on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Economics, Finance, and Central Banking.

Many young people have grand aspirations to change the world; not all actually do. Dewayne Martin ’24 has such aspirations in abundance and is already proving that he’s willing to see them through.

As long as she has been a student at Hamilton, Mary Hurner ’24 has been passionate about building community both on and off the Hill, and this summer was no exception. Hurner was recently recognized as an inaugural awardee of the Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service, also known as the Voyager Scholarship. The scholarship granted her a $10,000 stipend and free Airbnb housing to pursue a self-designed work-travel experience.

Each year, a core of highly motivated Hamilton students can be found taking steps toward a career in healthcare. What are our pre-health students doing this summer? How did they land their internships, and what have they learned? And how does it all fit into what they envision for their futures?

Dewayne Martin ’24 has been awarded a 2023 Truman Scholarship, the nation’s premiere scholarship for students interested in pursuing public service. Martin becomes the second Hamilton student to receive the award created in 1975; the first was Frederick Nelson in 1978.

The Levitt (Center) Law & Justice Lab, a program designed for students interested in synthesizing perspectives on public policy issues, just concluded a semester focused on exploring policies affecting homelessness in Utica, N.Y. The experience was led by Professors Frank Anechiarico (government), Herman Lehman (biology), Philip Bean (history), and Gwendolyn Dordick (government).
