Hamilton's New York City Program students took a much-needed break from the cold and tumultuous world of finance this past weekend, attending the opera Il Trovatore on March 20 and a concert by the New York Philharmonic on March 21.

Hamilton College used two strong pitching efforts and swept a doubleheader against D'Youville College at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla., On March 23.

Anne E. Lacsamana, assistant professor of women's studies, was invited by the NYC branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to present her research on the Philippines women's movement at their annual Educational Foundation tea and reception March 22.

Richard Seager, the Bates and Benjamin Professor of Classical and Religious Studies, was interviewed for an article in the Austin American-Statesman that examined the growth in Buddhism in the United States. In "American Lama Puts his Twist on Buddhism" published on March 23, Seager said that "the need to reinterpret for and in the West is seen increasingly to be the wise option."

Visiting Assistant Professor of Women's Studies Marla Jaksch has been awarded a J. William Fulbright Scholarship in Sub-Saharan Africa for 2009-2010. Her placement is with the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. She will be teaching graduate classes on gender and development and feminist post-development theories and doing research in northeastern parts of the country.

Hamilton College baseball player Max Foster '10 (Sherborn, Mass./Groton School) was a New England Small College Athletic Conference co-Pitcher of the Week selection on March 23.

Suffolk University collected 15 hits off five Hamilton College pitchers and took advantage of six errors by the Continentals in a 17-7 Rams' win at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla., on March 22.

Hong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures, gave a series of invited graduate seminars in Taiwan from March 18-22.

Max Foster '10 pitched seven strong innings and Hamilton College ended its three-game losing streak with a 6-3 win against Union College at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla., on March 21.
