Scholar Julie Parker wants to share the unsung stories of children in the Bible.

As they approach graduation and are hitting the job market, Hamilton seniors had the opportunity to improve interviewing skills at the Career Center-sponsored Interview Crash Course on Jan. 26.

HAVOC’s 22nd Annual MLK Jr. Day of Service drew 125 students on Jan. 25 to volunteer in Clinton, New Hartford, Utica, and Rome. Hamilton Association for Volunteering, Outreach and Charity (HAVOC) is part of the COOP, which oversees community service opportunities.

“My hope is for a discussion that is more light than heat.” That is how Wall Street Journal editorial board member and Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow Jason Riley described his desired outcome for the upcoming Common Ground event, Affirmative Action - Support, Critiques, and What’s Lost in the Discussion. The moderated four-person panel will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel.

Rabbi Peter Schaktman, who currently serves as the rabbi for Temple Emanu-El in Utica, has joined the Chaplaincy at Hamilton College for several hours a week during the spring semester Chaplain Jeff McArn has announced.

"Obviously research is what I do every day, and what I love doing, but I didn’t want to be at a place where they only value research and teaching is an afterthought. I really think that inspired teaching and being a good professor and advisor can make a big difference for a lot of students."

After he graduates from Hamilton in May, David Yu ’20 will be joining Amazon as a business analyst. He interned there last summer and shares his path to that first job.

Several Hamilton professors participated in “Iran, Iraq & the U.S.: Panel & Discussion” on Jan. 22.

During Hamilton’s winter break, students had the opportunity to take part in the Career Center’s “Day in the Life” shadowing program to learn more about career areas and make professional connections. Seventy-nine alumni and parents hosted 69 students for a day at their place of work. Alex Medina ’22 shadowed Hamilton parent Eric Andrews at Oracle headquarters in Silicon Valley and tells about his experience here.
