Many Americans might find the Affordable Care Act difficult to understand, and some may feel daunted by the task of enrolling in health insurance under the new law, but a group of Hamilton College students is helping make the process easier for the surrounding community.

Hamilton's Program in New York City students took a historically themed tour of Central Park on Jan. 29. The group's very knowledgeable guide talked about the park's origins and purpose, and the way it had changed over the years.

The New York Times “India Ink” blog featured a story on Pranlal Patel and the images he took of Indian women that will be exhibited by the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art beginning Feb. 1. “A Pioneer of Street Photography Leaves Behind Strong Images of Indian Women,” published on Jan. 30, included interviews with Patel, his family and Professor of History Lisa Trivedi, co-curator of the Wellin show, “Refocusing the Lens: Pranlal K. Patel’s Photographs of Women at Work in Ahmedabad.”

Students in the Hamilton College Academic Year in Spain program (HCAYS) began their spring semester with an orientation trip to Andalusía. They learned about history and shared cultural and culinary experiences during visits to Granada, Sevilla and other cities and towns.

The Department of French is once again collaborating with the Kirkland Art Center in this year’s presentation of new French films, the Tournées Festival, from Sunday, Feb. 2, through March 2. The first film in the five-film series is Rust and Bone on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m. in Bradford Auditorium, KJ. Film screenings are free and open to everyone; suggested donations of $3. to the Kirkland Art Center are welcome.

Hispanic Studies seniors kicked off the semester dancing salsa, merengue, and cha cha cha in a special event on Jan. 24. Every spring term, the Hispanic Studies department organizes the event in order to congratulate them as they head toward graduation.

Beginning this year, Hamilton College will become one of only a handful of schools to participate in the University of Rochester’s Early Assurance Program, which will give students the opportunity to gain conditional admission to its College of Medicine at the beginning of their junior year.
