Three faculty members were named recipients of Hamilton’s highest awards for teaching in the 2019-20 academic year. Dean of Faculty Suzanne Keen announced the honors at the May faculty meeting.

Academic achievement prizes, prize scholarships, and other recognition of student accomplishments were announced at Hamilton’s first virtual Class & Charter Day convocation on May 11. President David Wippman announced the award recipients from the Chapel in the annual event that this year was viewable online.

Dean of Faculty Suzanne Keen recognized nine faculty members with Dean’s Scholarly Achievement Awards in three categories at the May 5 faculty meeting.

After studying abroad in Spain for a semester during her junior year, Charlotte Freed ’20 knew she would one day return. As the recipient of a Fulbright English teaching assistantship, she’ll have that opportunity starting in January.

Assistant Professor of Literature Pavitra Sundar and students in her “English and its Discontents” senior seminar recently presented their research at a virtual conference titled “Thinking with an Accent: Through Voice, Across Media.”

To his surprise, William Salzillo, Kevin W. Kennedy Professor of Art and department chair, realized fairly early on that the move to online courses has forever changed how he teaches, which he’s done on the Hill since he began at Kirkland College in 1973.

After life at Hamilton shifted from the Hill to scattered points around the globe, Community Outreach and Community Project (COOP) put out a call for remote community service volunteers, and some 100 students answered, more helpers than opportunities to help.

Libby Militello ’22 is a student writer for the Communications Office and was spending the spring semester on Hamilton’s Program in Washington, D.C. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she, like the rest of Hamilton’s students, was forced to return home to continue the semester remotely. In the following, Militello describes her search for an internship and how she’s adapting to her new role.
