Professor of Music Sam Pellman and Professor of Art Ella Gant presented a new work of performance art, "Got Hic," on Wednesday, Jan. 22 in the Emerson Gallery.

Associate Professor of Government Phil Klinkner was interviewed by The Sacramento Bee for an article (1/19/03) about President Bush and the University of Michigan's admission policies for blacks.

Brett Mandel '91 is featured on CNN website. In Mandel's book "Is This Heaven? The Magic of the Field of Dreams," Mandel tells the stories of people who have found peace, hope and renewal at the baseball diamond carved out of a cornfield near Dyersville for the 1989 movie, based on W.P. Kinsella's novel "Shoeless Joe."

The Hamilton College Town-Gown Fund has launched the second phase of a fund-raising campaign aimed at bringing the value of the fund to $1 million. More than 100 Central New York corporations and businesses, each of which has conducted at least $50,000 in business with the college over the past three years, are being mailed a letter asking them to consider a contribution to the fund. An almost equal number of businesses outside the region will also be contacted.

A recent article in Massachusetts’s Patriot Ledger featured Hamilton Alumnus Steven Krensky ‘75. Krensky’s first book was accepted to a publisher shortly after graduating from Hamilton, and since then he has published 65 children’s books. Krensky discussed the satisfaction he receives from his occupation, but noted that it is still a job; “You can’t have the mentality of, ‘Oh, I’ll write whenever I feel creative’ or you end up in a situation where your not working.”

Karsten Lund spent the majority of his summer in Morocco on a self designed project to explore the themes of tradition, modernization, age, youth and questions of identity in Morocco. Lund, a senior at Hamilton College, was the recipient of a Schambach grant which enabled him to remain in Morocco after his academic term abroad, in order to explore his chosen themes through the medium of photography. He will be exhibiting the 30 black and white photographs in an independent show on campus beginning on January 27.

Alejandro Portes, Howard Harrison and Gabrielle Snyder Beck Professor of Sociology and director of the Center for Migration and Development at Princeton University, will present, "The Second Generation and the Future of American Society," on Wednesday, January 29, at 8 p.m. in the Hamilton College Chapel.

In fielding media queries on the re-emergence of anti-war sentiment, Hamilton College Professor of History Maurice Isserman has been asked to compare the movements against the war in Vietnam in the 1960s and the potential war in Iraq in 2003.

Members of the Hamilton College community will remember and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy during the 5th annual Community Service Project on Saturday, January 25. Volunteers will spend the day at such organizations as Elder Life, the Cosmopolitan Center and Salvation Army doing cleaning, painting and activities with the elderly. Associate Professor of Government Phil Klinkner was a guest on Wisconsin Public Radio's Tom Clark Show in January 20.
