Hamilton College Associate Professor of Government Philip Klinkner was interviewed by The Detroit News for an article about President Bush's position on the University of Michigan's admissions policy (Jan. 17, 2003). Bush said Michigan's admissions policies that give an advantage to minority applicants are unconstitutional. Klinkner was quoted as saying, "He (Bush) has to walk a thin line. He is aware of the racial and gender dynamics in the electorate and realizes that to take a real hard right position on things creates some electoral problems."

A service fair hosted by Hamilton's department of administrative services on January 16 drew hundreds of College employees to the Annex, where they learned about everything from Bon Appetit menus and rental cars, to copying services and summer camps.

Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum and a prize-winning columnist for The New York Post and The Jerusalem Post, will present a lecture, “The Palestinian-Israeli War” on Monday, January 27, at 8 p.m., in the Chapel at Hamilton College. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The HILLgroup will be sponsoring monthly discussion groups on topics related to learning, instructional technology, and the use of information resources in college courses. The first HILLgroup Discussion Series event, Focus On What We Have Learned About Coordinated Academic Support, is Tuesday, January 28th, at 4pm in the Christian Johnson Browsing Room.

The Kirkland Project for the Study of Gender, Society and Culture at Hamilton College in Clinton announces its “Masculinities” film series for January – March 2003. Bill Delaney,’73, was featured in a Boston Globe article that highlights Delaney’s most recent career move, transitioning from television to radio. The former CNN correspondent began co-hosting the noon news show, “Here and Now,” on Boston’s WBUR-FM (90.9). Delaney commented on the changes occurring in television news; “they want everything in smaller and smaller bits…at a time when I think people need longer and longer bits to understand what’s going on.”
