Hamilton College President Eugene M. Tobin announced two recent faculty promotions. Ann Silversmith, an associate professor of physics, has been promoted to full professor, and men's soccer coach Perry Nizzi was promoted from assistant to associate professor of physical education.

Out of the Box TV's program Backroads of Central New York will air on WUTR - TV 20 (the ABC affiliate in Utica, NY), on Thursday, June 20, at 8 p.m. The hour-long program focuses on three historic out-of-the-way routes in the Central New York area. The program is produced by David Gaynes '99.

James B. Nickel '52 delivered the Half-Century Class Annalist's Letter at the annual meeting of the Alumni Association.

The Emerson Gallery at Hamilton College will open the summer exhibition season with Selections from Hamilton Collects American Art from June 17 through August 4, 2002.

An article in the Syracuse Post-Standard reported that Hamilton's new Science building, scheduled to be completed in 2005, will cost an estimated $56 billion. The four story expansion is the most expensive project in Hamilton's 190-year history. "This building will help ensure Hamilton's leadership position in the undergraduate science education," commented President Tobin, "Already, more than a quarter of Hamilton students major in the sciences, about twice the national average."

The Hamilton College Writing Program announced "Alexander Hamilton's List," a group of more than 100 students who have been recognized by the faculty for their achievements in writing in the Spring, 2002, semester.

Susan Valentine K'73, welcomed attendees at the Kirkland College Commemorative Awards ceremony, held during Reunion Weekend, June 7-9. Valentine credited the work of many -- including Hamilton College president Eugene Tobin, Kirkland Project Coordinator Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz, Vice President of Communications and Development Dick Tantillo, and Jennifer Potter Hayes K' 73 -- with keeping the spirit of Kirkland College alive and making the commemorative ceremony a reality.

The Emerson Gallery at Hamilton College will open the summer exhibition season with Selections from Hamilton Collects American Art, from June 17 through August 4. Highlights include works by William Glackens, Rockwell Kent, Raphael Soyer, Marsden Hartley, Charles Burchfield, and others, focusing on twentieth century paintings. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

President George W. Bush has nominated James Howard Yellin '60 to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Burundi.

Leonard C. Ferguson Professor of Archaeology Tom Jones was quoted in The Salt Lake Tribune in an article about the reopening and excavation of Danger Cave in western Utah.
