Maurice Isserman, the Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History, recently discussed the World War II history of the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division in an invited talk at Fort Drum, located near Watertown in Jefferson County. In attendance were officers and noncommissioned officers of the 1st Battalion, 87th Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry).

Isserman’s 2019 book, The Winter Army: The 10th Mountain Division in World War II, chronicles the formation of the division and its role in Germany’s surrender in Italy.

Reds: The Tragedy of American Communism, Isserman’s latest book, was published in June and was recently nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
