Hamilton will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Kirkland charter during Reunions ’15. The New York State Board of Regents approved Kirkland’s charter in March 1965, 153 years after their approval of the original Hamilton College charter. The first class entered in 1968.
Reunions will take place June 4-7. Among the special Kirkland events planned are an opening reception to celebrate the Kirkland Wall in the new Kevin and Karen Kennedy Center for Theatre and Studio Arts.
The wall includes the name of every alumna who matriculated at Kirkland. Also taking place are Kirkland Echoes, plays written and directed by alumnae; readings from Lost Orchard: Prose and Poetry from the Kirkland College Community; and a Kirkland art show and display of Kirkland Pioneers posters. The Kirkland Pioneers Project will gather short reflections paired with past and current imagery. It aims to highlight the range of career and life choices Kirkland alumnae made, offering a glimpse into their collective pioneer spirit.
Alumnae are invited to submit original works of art to be considered for the second annual curated Reunion Weekend Exhibition which will be displayed in the Johnson Gallery in the Kennedy Center.
