The Amherst College Lord Jeffs scored a goal in each half on their way to a 2-0 NESCAC win over the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton’s Love Field on Oct. 5.

Box score

The Continentals (3-2-2 overall, 1-2-2 NESCAC) lost for the first time in four weeks. Hamilton, which held a 15-12 edge in shots, had a four-game unbeaten streak coming into the afternoon. Both teams took five corner kicks.

The Jeffs (5-1-2, 3-1-2), who are receiving votes in the national coaches poll, won their third straight game. Amherst has won all five meetings with the Continentals.

Jessy Hale ’16 put Amherst up 1-0 in the 17th minute with her first goal this year. Hannah Cooper ’14 redirected a corner kick taken by Megan Kim ’16 along the goal line and Hale pushed it into the net.

Sarah Duffy ’14 provided a late insurance goal with 6:03 left in the second half. Duffy brought the ball down the right side and shot across the goal and off the far post for her second goal this season.

Hamilton had two chances to tie the score midway through the second half. First, Kendall Daly ’17 took a shot on a breakaway that goalkeeper Holly Burwick ’16 saved. Less than a minute later, a cross came to Becca Rees ’16 at the left post but her header went just wide.

Burwick made five saves in the shutout. Hamilton’s Liza Gergenti ’14 made two saves and Jacqueline Winter '14 stopped a shot from going in the net for a team save.

The Continentals play another NESCAC game at Bowdoin College on Saturday, Oct. 12.
