Ryan Crawford '15 scattered five hits and allowed one earned run over six innings of work in Game 2 to salvage a split for Hamilton College against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference doubleheader in Winter Haven, Fla., on March 13.

Hamilton defeated the Trailblazers 7-3 in the second game. MCLA (3-2 overall) edged the Continentals 4-3 in eight innings in Game 1.

Hamilton (1-3) picked up its first win of the season. The Continentals are in Florida until March 22 for a 15-game spring trip. Hamilton takes on Lesley University in a single game on Wednesday, March 14, at 4 p.m.

In the nightcap, Crawford walked just one batter and fanned five. Sam Choate '12 collected three hits, drove in two runs and scored one to lead the offense. Sam Fuentes '13 had two hits, and Thomas Merriman '15 smacked his second double of the day. Alex Pachella '15 drove in two runs.

Sean Coyle led MCLA with two hits and a run scored, and Peter Dassatti doubled and drove in a run. Cody Weaver singled and scored a run, and Rory Slattery scored the Trailblazers' other run.

With one out in the top of the second inning, Gabe Klein '13 walked and Fuentes followed with a single. After Klein stole third and Fuentes stole second, Pachella singled to bring home both runners and give the Continentals a 2-0 lead.

Joe Jensen '15 led off the next inning with a single. Jensen later stole second and scored on Choate's RBI single. Choate then swiped second base and came around to score on Merriman's double. Fuentes capped the inning two batters later with an RBI single to bring home Merriman for a 5-0 lead.

The Trailblazers got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Hamilton responded by plating a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Tyler Reinhold '15 reached on an error and later came around to score on an RBI single by John Wulf '12. After Jensen reached on a fielder's choice, Choate followed with an RBI single to finish the scoring for the Continentals.

In Game 1, D.J. Clark scattered five hits and allowed one earned run in five innings of work for the Trailblazers. Clark issued a pair of walks and fanned two batters. Joe Duncan had two hits and drove in a run. Derek Lescarbeau and Chase Preite each doubled, and Michael Sullivan smacked a triple.

Wulf paced the Continentals' offense with three hits and a run. Choate, Merriman and Lukas Bridenbeck '13 all doubled, and Choate and Merriman each scored a run. Klein added an RBI single. Hamilton starter Colin Henneberger '14 surrendered six hits and three earned runs in five innings. Henneberger walked one batter and struck out four.

Sullivan tripled to lead off the top of the first inning and one batter later, Ross Miner's sacrifice fly gave MCLA a 1-0 lead. With two outs in the top of the third inning, Duncan singled, stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch to put the Trailblazers ahead 2-0. But Hamilton got a run back in the bottom half when Wulf singled, stole second and came around to score on a wild pitch.

Duncan's RBI single in the top of the fifth inning scored Lescarbeau to give MCLA a 3-1 lead. The Continentals narrowed the gap one inning later when Merriman led off with a double and later scored on a fielding error by the pitcher. Choate doubled to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, and Klein lined an RBI single to tie the score and send the game to extra innings.

The Trailblazers scored an unearned run in the top of the eighth inning to take the lead. Despite loading the bases in the bottom of the inning, the Continentals were unable to plate the game-tying run.
