 Janika Beatty ’17

A summer internship at a start-up company in New York City is enabling Janika Beatty ’17 to explore a couple different interests: the beauty industry and blogging.  Beatty is working for BASE BUTTER, a new company that produces an all- natural multipurpose body butter. Support for Beatty’s internship is made possible by Daniel Fielding ’07 and managed through Hamilton’s Career Center.

Beatty, a women’s studies major at Hamilton, is the creative writing intern at BASE BUTTER. “I’m in charge of handling their #BeautyBASECs blog. I get to write a few articles every week, giving my own beauty tips and tricks while also explaining how to incorporate BASE BUTTER into one’s lifestyle,” Beatty explained.

The rising senior said she has become interested in esthetics in the last few years, so the chance to explore a new industry seemed too good to pass on.  In addition, through this internship she’s been able “to learn more about marketing and branding, as well as what the job of a professional blogger actually looks like.”

Beatty feels she’s made a good choice with this summer opportunity as she’s having a positive experience and enjoys working with other young people. “The founder of BASE BUTTER, herself, is a fairly recent college graduate so it’s so cool working under someone who is so young and so obviously passionate,” Beatty remarked. “I’ve never worked with people who so absolutely love what they’re doing at all times. It’s awe inspiring to say the least.”

The internship opened Beatty’s eyes to the possibility of blogging professionally. “Writing makes me so happy and this internship has been so great in terms of showing me that I could do this after I graduate and be incredibly happy doing it,” Beatty concluded.
