Marianne Janack

Hamilton College is home to Book XI, a new literary/philosophical journal. It is edited by Marianne Janack, John Stewart Kennedy Professor of Philosophy and director of the Levitt Center, with the help of students Honor Allen '21, Dorothy Poucher '21, and Liam Rogers '21.

The journal is exclusively online, though there are plans to publish "best of" volumes in the future. The first issue, philosophical science fiction, includes stories about artificial intelligence, biological enhancements, poetry, and creativity, among other topics. It was guest edited by Bruce Simon '91 and dedicated to his father, the late Bob Simon, and his mother, Joy Simon. Issue 2 will include humor, issue 3 will focus on fiction/short stories, and issue 4 will be meditations on objects.
