Assistant Professor of Economics Emily Conover presented a poster at the Northeast Universities Development Consortium (NEUDC) Conference, a major forum in development economics held this year at Tufts University Nov. 7-8. Conover's paper, titled “"Effects of Colombia's Social Protection System on Workers' Choice between Formal and Informal Employment," addressed informal labor markets in Colombia. The paper explored whether a broad expansion of social programs, including publicly provided health insurance, created incentives for workers to become informally employed.
