Hamilton’s annual Class & Charter Day celebration concluded the 2011-12 academic year on Friday, May 4, with a convocation in the Chapel. Students received prizes for academic achievement and teaching awards were given to faculty members.

The convocation was followed by Hamtrek, the 9th annual campus sprint triathlon, where participants swam, biked and ran.  Campus Wellness Director Dave Thompson reported that about 150 people participated as teams or individuals, another 100 Hamilton community members took part in the walk, and 30 volunteered on the course.  Stephen Wright ’13 was the top individual finisher with a time of 53:23, Heather Buchman was top women’s individual finisher in 1:08:40, and Team Haberbusch won the relay, finishing in 58:36.

Hamtrek participants raised $2000 to benefit the Shawn Grady Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization devoted to helping local families who have children with life-threatening illnesses. It was established in memory of Shawn Grady, an outstanding athlete who was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of his sophomore year.

To conclude the day students enjoyed a concert with Super Mash Bros, indie rock band Dr. Dog, and Downbeat Keys.
