Associate Director for Digital Learning and Research Nhora Lucía Serrano participated in a virtual roundtable on scholarly publication in comics studies launched Oct. 15 on Oxford University Press’ YouTube channel spotlighting top scholars in a variety of scholarly fields.

Frederick Luis Aldama, editor in chief of The Oxford Handbook of Comic Book Studies and professor at The Ohio State University, Cal State Sacramento assistant professor Torsa Ghosal, and Robert Repino, senior editor at Oxford University Press, also participated in this virtual roundtable.

The scholars, all of whom had worked on The Oxford Handbook of Comic Book Studies, discussed an array of topics from experiences of introducing comic book studies to the academy to the question of whether comics are inherently subversive to favorite cinematic adaptations of comics and future scholarly comics projects.

In this peer-review volume, whose print version was published in September, Serrano contributed a chapter titled “Columbia and the Editorial Cartoon.”
