Hamilton College came in second place in the men’s varsity eight against St. Lawrence University, but all the women's races were canceled due to poor rowing conditions on the Erie Canal in Rome, N.Y., on April 16.

Due to unsafe racing conditions, four events were not contested after the men's varsity eight. The men’s second varsity eight, women’s varsity eight, women’s second varsity eight and women’s varsity four were not held.

Race conditions were cloudy with temperatures in the 40s, and a 20-to-25 mile-per-hour headwind. Hamilton crossed the finish line in 7:36.0 on the 2,000-meter course. St. Lawrence placed first with a time of 7:20.0 to take the Houlihan Cup.

Jamie Leiva-Cabrera ’14 was coxswain for the varsity eight. The rest of the boat included Jeff Cardoni ’11 at stroke, Dylan Jackson ‘13 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Chris Visentin ‘12, Aaron Whiteman ‘13, Adam Minchew ‘12, Matt Poterba ‘12, Joe Ely ‘12 and Gibson Hoyt '12.

Hamilton is off until the New York State Championships in Whitney Point, N.Y., on Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1.
