Hamilton’s curling team is co-hosting the annual Utica Curling Club (UCC) College Bonspiel this weekend with SUNY Poly and Colgate at UCC, 8300 Clark Mills Rd., Whitesboro. The schools will welcome 16 teams from 12 different colleges and universities. Hamilton will field two teams. The games begin on Friday, Feb. 12, ;at 9:30 p.m., and continue throughout the day on Saturday. Members of the Hamilton community are welcome and encouraged to go watch and support our teams.

Hamilton curlers competing at the UCC Bonspiel are on Hamilton 1: Andrew Fletcher ’17 (skip), Travis Roeder ’18 (vice-skip), Jackie Zingman ’18 (second), and John Zhang ’19 (lead); and Hamilton 2: Nicole Saitta ’16 (skip), Nelly Green ’18 (vice-skip), Sarah Hossain ’18 (second), and Leah Weaver ’18 (lead).

Hamilton’s team has had a successful season thus far. The curlers earned a number of merit points (which count toward qualifying for the national tournament) at bonspiels hosted by RPI and Yale. Hamilton is currently ranked 10th nationally; the top 16 teams qualify for nationals, so Hamilton should safely do so.

After this weekend’s tournament, Hamilton will train its national’s team at practice over the next few weeks to prepare before the event takes place in Chaska, Minn., on March 11-13. The national’s roster is already set and the team will be represented by: Andrew Fletcher (skip), Nicole Saitta (vice-skip), Alex Hirsu (second), and Travis Roeder (lead).
