Assistant Professor of Government Erica De Bruin published an article in the Journal of Peace Research titled "Mapping Coercive Institutions: The State Security Forces Dataset, 1960-2010." The article introduces a dataset that tracks how rulers across the globe organize and use the presidential guards, militarized police, militia, and other security forces under their command.
De Bruin began collecting the dataset as part of her dissertation, and won an award from the International Peace Research Association Foundation to expand it with the aid of a team of Hamilton College students, including Keshav Arvind, Annika Jonas-Day '17, Chloe Ma '17, Conor O'Shea '18, Connor Sharkey '17, and Flo Turiaf '17.
