Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion Maria Genao-Homs is the recipient of the Region II Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Award from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). The award was presented last week at the NASPA Region II Virtual Conference.
According to the NASPA website, the award is “presented to an office/department/division at a college or university within Region II that demonstrates a successful record of achievement in celebrating and creating a welcoming and inclusive campus environment.” The description goes on to say that the recipient is a person who “helps to create an institutional ethos that accepts and celebrates differences, among people, helping to free them of any misconceptions and prejudices.”
Of this award, Vice President, Dean of Students, and Chief Diversity Officer Terry Martinez said, “I am thrilled for this recognition of Maria’s commitment to DEI work. Since the day she arrived she has focused on creating inclusive and equitable environments and practices. Her work not only has an impact on our campus, but informs the practice of other colleagues in our region. We celebrate this honor with Maria.”
Martinez is the outgoing director for NASPA Region II.
