Eight Hamilton College student-athletes were honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) on March 5, when the organization released its 2012 Division III National Academic Squad.

2012 Division III National Academic Squad

The national academic squad recognizes individuals who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year. Hamilton's qualifiers are listed below.

Leah Cairns '13 (Andover, Mass./Andover HS)
Aubrey Coon '16 (Taberg, N.Y./Camden Senior HS)
Martha Geyer '14 (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day School)
Katey Hopper '15 (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich HS)
Lauren King '16 (Shelburne, Vt./Champlain Valley Union HS)
Samantha Sherman '15 (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan HS)


Cairns was named to the squad in each of her four years on the field hockey team, while King made the 2012 NFHCA Collegiate Scholars of Distinction list. To be included on the list, a student-athlete must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.

Hamilton also earned the NFHCA Division III national academic team award for the 10th consecutive year. The program recognizes those institutions that have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.
