Field hockey receives first NCAA tournament bid

Hamilton College received an at-large bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III field hockey tournament on Monday morning.

Hamilton (12-4 overall) will make its first appearance in the national championships in program history. The Continentals are one of six at-large selections to the 24-team tournament. Hamilton came up just short in the quest for an automatic bid with a 3-2 overtime loss to Skidmore College in the Liberty League tournament final on Nov. 7.

The Continentals play a first round game against the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Wooster's overall record is 16-5. The Fighting Scots earned an automatic bid after they won their second consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday.
