Former Hamilton College men's basketball coach Tom Murphy will receive the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Outstanding Service Award at the NABC convention in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, April 5.

The outstanding service award has been presented annually since 1997. The award is given to coaches whose actions inside and outside the lines of coaching have distinguished them as valuable members of their community. A total of 29 individuals have received this award.

Murphy won 602 games in 34 seasons at Hamilton. His teams finished with 20 or more wins in a season 15 times and he coached the Continentals to 30 straight winning campaigns. Murphy's teams played in eight NCAA Division III championship tournaments and captured 10 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Upstate New York titles. A total of 13 Hamilton players received 21 All-America awards.

Murphy was named the NABC Division III Coach of the Year in 1979 and 1991. His 1990-91 squad won their first 26 games and finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final NCAA Division III Top 20 coaches poll. Murphy ranks 35th on the career men's basketball coaching victories list for all NCAA divisions.
