Courtney Gibbons.

Associate Professor of Mathematics Courtney Gibbons recently presented on an interactive panel as part of the BIG (Business, Industry, and Government) Math Network: Industry Connection Series: Legislative Branch.

According to its website, the BIG Math Network promotes “careers in business, industry and government to students and departments of the mathematical sciences.” Panel discussions take place virtually and provide students with an opportunity to connect with mathematical scientists who can answer their questions.

In 2022, Gibbons was awarded a Science & Technology Policy Fellowship (STPF) from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The program works with the U.S. government in providing fellows to contribute their scientific training to U.S. policymaking in Washington. This year, Gibbons is with the National Science Foundation as one of many executive branch fellows through the AAAS STPF program.

The BIG Math Network is sponsored by the American Mathematical Society, the American Statistical Association, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
