
Hamilton College finished fifth in the 20th annual Palamountain Invitational hosted by Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on April 16 and 17.
The 12-team invitational was played on two courses. Saratoga State Park Course hosted the tournament on Sunday and McGregor Links Course hosted the event on Monday. Saratoga State Park measures 6,700 yards and McGregor Links stretches out to 7,078 yards. Both courses have a par of 72.
Hamilton was in third place after Day 1 with a four-player score of 301 shots. However, the Continentals' top four scores added up to 344 on the second day. The 645 total was 48 strokes behind tournament champion Salem State College. Host Skidmore was runner-up with 603. Skidmore's Michael Stiller was individual medalist with a 3-under-par 141 for 36 holes.
Dan Treichler '08 ended up tied for ninth place out of 63 golfers with a 36-hole score of 153. Treichler fired a 1-under par round of 71 at Saratoga State Park. The 71 tied his best round at Hamilton. Treichler also shot 71 at Le Moyne College in the fall.
Mike Hayes '08 was consistent as he finished in 13th place with a total of 155 shots. Hayes carded a 78 on Sunday and a 77 on Monday. Hayes was the only Continental that posted a lower score on the second day.
Blake McLennan '07 started the tournament with the best round of his college career -- a 2-over-par 74. McLennan fell off to a 93 the next day for a 36-hole total of 167. Dave Christie '09 shot 78 on Sunday, but finished with a 92 on Monday for a total of 170.
Hamilton travels to Drumlins Golf Course in Syracuse, N.Y., to play a dual match against Division II Le Moyne on Saturday, April 22, at 1 p.m.
