The Hamilton College men’s soccer team took a 1-0 lead into halftime before host SUNY Oneonta scored four straight second-half goals to hand the Continentals a 4-2 non-league loss Wednesday afternoon.

Box score

The Continentals (5-7-0 overall) had won three straight non-league games. They scored the only goal of the game’s first 50 minutes, jumping ahead 1-0 just over 23 minutes in on a goal by Alec Talsania ’17. Talsania took a pass from Jack Temko ’18 and sent the ball into the upper right corner of the net for his second goal of the season.

The Red Dragons (10-3-1) tied the game eight minutes into the second period when Jared Van Brunt headed a goal into the Hamilton net off a volley from Brandon Arango. Cory Santangelo was also credited with an assist on the play after setting up Arango with a cross.

Santangelo recorded a natural hat trick in a 12-minute span. He put the hosts ahead with a diving header off a restart, gave his team a two-goal lead by collecting his own rebound and putting it into the net and added an insurance score by heading in a cross from Matthew Matteo.

Hamilton closed to within 4-2 with 11 minutes left in regulation when Spenser Heller ’17 buried a penalty kick for his second goal of 2015 but the Oneonta defense held the Continentals without a shot the rest of the way.

Harris Pollack ’17 made seven saves for Hamilton. Vincent Pellegrino stopped three shots for the Red Dragons, who owned a 21-7 advantage in shots.

The Continentals return to NESCAC play Saturday, traveling to Bowdoin for a 2 p.m. game.
