Lynne Salkin, a senior at Hamilton College, has been awarded an internship with the German Marshall Fund for 2000-2001. The GMF is an international institute doing research in German-American relations, based in Berlin, Germany. Its mission is to deepen understanding, promote collaboration and stimulate exchanges for practical experience between Americans and Europeans. GMF was created in 1972 by a gift from the German people as a permanent memorial to postwar Marshall Plan aid.

The Berlin office represents GMF in Germany, administers grantmaking and fellowship programs aimed at German politicians and journalists, and works with the Washington D.C. office on a variety of projects. The Berlin intern is typically involved in diverse tasks with an emphasis on administrative support. The internship runs from Sept. 1 through May 31. The successful candidate must have strong research and writing skills and fluency in written and spoken German. Only one internship per year is awarded.

Salkin, a government and German major at Hamilton, is a graduate of The Long Trail School. She is the daughter of Gerald and Wilma Salkin of Bondville, Vt.
