Phyllis A.H. Breland was awarded the Arthur O. Eve Lifetime Achievement Award at the Higher Education Opportunity Programs (HEOP) 50th Anniversary Conference in Albany, N.Y., on Thursday, Nov. 6.

A class of 1980 HEOP graduate of Hamilton, Breland continued to work for the HEOP summer program for many years after graduation and has directed the College’s Opportunity Program since 2001.  She has also been the president of the New York State Higher Education Opportunity Program Professional Organization (HEOPPO) for the past eight years.

The award was presented by William (Woodg) Horning,  director of Student Opportunity Programs at Cornell University and HEOPPO vice president, Hamilton Assistant Director of Opportunity Programs and HEOPPO Syracuse Regional Representative Brenda C Davis, and Bill Short, director of HEOP at St Lawrence University and HEOPPO Advocacy Chair.
