De Bao Xu, associate professor of Chinese, presented a lecture, "A Multimedia Approach to Teaching Chinese at Hamilton: A Nine-Year Practice," on Monday, Feb. 25, at 4:10 p.m. in the Red Pit. The talk was part of the Humanities Forum.

Since 1993, Hong Gang Jin and De Bao Xu have incorporated multimedia into their teaching of Chinese. They have accumulated over 10 multimedia teaching materials, including seven CDs for interactive courses enabling Chinese language teachers to create their own multimedia materials, and substantial exercises for individual use in the language lab. Hamilton has become a leader in incorporating technology into Chinese language teaching.

In 2000 the college acted as host to a TLCT workshop, and will join Yale University in sponsoring a second conference and workshop in June 2002.  The work being done at Hamilton over the past nine years has been presented at national and international conferences, and De Bao Xu discussed that work.
