Another Face of the Archimedean Property,” an article co-authored by Professor of Mathematics Robert Kantrowitz ’82, appears in the current issue of The College Mathematics Journal (CMJ).

The Archimedean property, named for Archimedes of Syracuse, states that given any real number, there is always a counting number that is greater. Kantrowitz and co-author Michael M. Neumann showed that the property is equivalent to several convergence conditions from calculus, most notably the validity of the geometric series test.

The College Mathematics Journal is a publication of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). According to the MAA website, the journal “is designed to enhance classroom learning and stimulate thinking regarding undergraduate mathematics.”
