Frank Campagnano '12 scored with 2:18 left in regulation to break a 1-1 stalemate and send Hamilton College to a 2-1 win over Bates College in a NESCAC game at Bates' Russell Street Field on Oct. 1.
The Continentals' (2-4-1 overall, 1-4-1 NESCAC) Griffin Abbott '15 fired a shot on goal that was deflected away by Bates goalie Greg Watts. Abbott was able to gather the rebound and set up Campagnano for the game-winner. Campagnano's goal was the 17th of his Hamilton career.
Abbott put Hamilton on top with 29 minutes to go in the first half on another rebounded save by Watts. Watts made a good save on a shot by Brian Whiston '13, but Abbott was there to bury the rebound for the game's first goal.
Bates (2-4, 0-4 NESCAC) evened the score with 25:47 left in the second half, as John Murphy '13 ripped a free kick toward the top left corner of the Continentals' goal. Hamilton goalie Eric Boole '13 got a hand on it, but not enough to prevent Murphy's fifth goal of the season.
Boole was credited with eight saves for the Continentals. Bates held a 19-14 advantage in shots, and each team took eight corner kicks.
Hamilton hosts SUNY Oswego for a rescheduled non-conference game on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m.
