The Hamilton College men’s and women’s swim teams competed in an ocean mile swim at Anchor Park in Delray Beach, Fla., on Jan. 9.

The proceeds from the race benefited the Delray Beach Ocean Lifeguard Competition Team. Other schools participating in the race included New York University, Rider University and St. Mary's College of Maryland. There were a total of 135 finishers.

In the men’s 20-24 group, Bowie Sievers ‘11 finished second and took seventh place overall with a time of 25 minutes, 39 seconds. Chris DeConinck ‘11 and Jake DeConinck ‘11 finished in 16th and 17th place overall, respectively. They were followed by Clay Masters ‘10 who finished 18th overall. Taylor Hogenkamp ’13 took seventh place in the men’s 15-19 age group, and placed 35th overall. T.J. Davis, head men’s and women’s swim coach, finished in third place in the men’s 35-39 age group. 
 
In the women’s 15-19 group, Megan Gibbons ’12 finished fourth and placed 25th overall with a time of 27:00.  In the women’s 20-24 group, Whitney Rosenbaum ’10 finished second and took 26th overall in 27:02. Christa Narus, assistant men’s and women’s swim coach, finished in third in the same age group, and took 27th overall recording a time of 27:04.
 
The Continentals next compete at Middlebury College on Jan. 16.
