Matias and Jean Rasamoelina finished fifth in their heat of the lightweight men's double sculls with a time of 6:49.9 on August 24. South Africa, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Brazil were the other countries in their heat.

Matias and Rasamoelina missed directly qualifying for the quarterfinals and raced in a repechage on August 25 for another chance to compete in the quarters. The duo finished in fifth place again with a time of 7:09.31. Russia, Hungary, Chile, Mexico and Armenia also had boats in that race.

Matias will race in the lightweight men's double sculls E Final later this week.
