Hamilton College men's crew competed in the Augusta Invitational Regatta on Langley Pond in South Carolina on March 17.
Hamilton's varsity eight placed fourth out of seven boats with a time of 7:01.8 on the 2,000-meter course. Teams were rowing into a 10 to 20 mile-per-hour quartering headwind. The University of Tennessee won the event in 6:56.1. Hamilton's varsity four "A" boat finished third in its heat with a time of 7:25.7 and was one of six boats that qualified for the final. Hamilton ended up sixth in the final with a time of 8:32.1.
The Hamilton varsity four "B" took fourth place in one heat with a time of 7:55.8. The novice four was third in its flight with a time of 8:01.4. The Hamilton men and women combined to win the college overall points title. Hamilton topped the 11-crew field with 100 points, which edged the College of William & Mary with 98 points.
Ricky Bottini '10 was coxswain for the varsity eight, varsity four "A" and novice four. Nikola Banishki '07 was stroke and Tim Belden '10 was in the bow seat for the eights. The rest of the boat (seats seven through two in descending order) included: Ben Sholl '09, Charlie Palanza '10, Willy Cowles '09, Greg Mitchell '09, Mike Millar '08 and Jonathan Wilson '09.
Banishki was stroke and Sholl was in the bow. Cowles was three-seat and Mitchell was two-seat. Coxswain for varsity four "B" was Dan Rudel '10. Palanza was stroke and John Watkins '10 was in the bow. Belden was three-seat and Wilson was two-seat. Palanza was stroke and Rudel was in the bow. Millar was three-seat and Matt Kotlove '09 was two-seat.
Hamilton returns north and competes for the Gilman Plate and Cup at Union College on Saturday, April 7.
