Hamilton College is in second place after the first day of the 36-hole NESCAC Golf Championship Qualifier at The Skenandoa Golf Club in Clinton, N.Y., on Sept. 27.

All five Hamilton golfers posted rounds in the 70s led by Riley Burgess '18, who is in second place out of 49 golfers after he fired a 1-over-par 73. Burgess' round is his best this season. Greg Reeves '17 was right behind Burgess in a tie for third place with a career-best 74. Mac Pivirotto '15 and Joe Tigani '18 carded 77s and Gipper Gailor '15 recorded a 79.

The Continentals' four-man team total added up to 301 shots. They are four strokes behind first-round leader Middlebury College -- the 2014 NESCAC champion. Trinity College is third just one shot behind Hamilton and Williams College is in fourth place after a 305.

The top four finishers advance to the 2015 NESCAC Championship in late April. Tufts University stands in fifth place at 315. The team that captures first place in the qualifier gets to host the 2015 championship.

Sunday's second round gets underway at 10:30 a.m. and Hamilton, Middlebury, Trinity and Williams begin teeing off at 11:50.
