Mike Hayes '08 fired a 1-under par 71 to help lead Hamilton College to second place in the seven-team Mike Bello Invitational hosted by Le Moyne College at the Links at Sunset Ridge on Sept. 14.

Hamilton, which won the 15-team Bowdoin College Invitational on Sept. 10, finished with a four-man team score of 306 shots. Division II Le Moyne captured the team title with a total of 294. The Links at Sunset Ridge, which measures 6,700 yards, is located in Marcellus, N.Y.

Hayes tied for first place with a Le Moyne player, but earned medalist honors by winning a one-hole playoff. He has been at even or under par in three of four tournament rounds this fall.

Dave Christie '09, who won a one-hole playoff at Bowdoin to claim medalist honors at that tournament, shot 77. Dan Treichler '08 was right behind Christie with a 78 and Chris Pike '07 carded an 80.

The Continentals fielded a "B" team that finished just nine strokes behind the "A" group at the Bello Invitational. Phil Preiss '10 posted a three-over 75 to lead Hamilton's second team. Blake McLennan '07 birdied his first three holes en route to a round of 76. Both Preiss and McLennan ended up in the top ten. Brendan Sullivan '07 added an 80 and Danny Hurwitz '10 shot 84.

The Continentals compete in Middlebury College's Duke Nelson Invitational at Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Sept. 16 and 17. The course is located on the College's campus in Middlebury, Vermont. Saturday's round starts at 1 p.m. and Sunday's round tees off at 9 a.m.
