Hamilton College's Joe Buicko '11 (Altamont, N.Y./Hotchkiss School [Conn.]) has been selected captain of the men's ice hockey team for 2009-10.
Buicko was one of two assistant captains for a Hamilton team that finished last season with an overall record of 9-15-1 and earned a spot in the 2009 New England Small College Athletic Conference championship quarterfinals. The 5-foot-11 forward scored 10 goals and was credited with 16 assists for 26 points in 25 games. He shared the team lead with seven power-play goals.
Buicko tied for eighth place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in points, tied for 12th in goals, tied for sixth in assists and tied for first in power-play goals. For his career, he has 17 goals and 22 assists in 49 games.
"The team chose wisely in selecting Joe because he embodies the characteristics of a strong leader," second-year head coach Norm Bazin said. "He has tenacity, drive and is a true student-athlete. He does all the right things on and off the ice to represent himself and the team well."
