Jeff Corey completed his hat trick by scoring a goal with just 34 seconds left in overtime to lead Hamilton College to a 6-5 win at Elmira College in a non-conference men's ice hockey game on Jan. 27.
Corey now has 11 goals this season for Hamilton (10-5-1 overall). Gus Katsuras scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season and assisted on three others. Vincent Rinaldi was credited with the other two goals and added an assist. Robbie MacNeil (3-0-1) remained unbeaten in four starts by making 33 saves.
The game featured four lead changes and five ties. Katsuras gave the Continentals an early lead on a power play goal at the 3:55 mark of the first period. Elmira (8-9-2) responded with two goals to take a 2-1 lead, but Rinaldi scored on the power play with 3:32 left to send the teams into the first intermission tied at 2.
Corey gave Hamilton a short-lived 3-2 lead on another power play tally at the 14:49 mark of the second period before the Soaring Eagles tied the game 14 seconds later. Elmira forged ahead 9:02 into the third, but Corey's second goal tied the score at 4 just 1:05 later. Rinaldi's seventh goal made it 5-4 Continentals with 8:09 left in regulation until the Soaring Eagles struck again 11 seconds later to send the teams to the extra session. Corey's game-winner was assisted by Brendan Bell.
Hamilton returns to Sage Rink to host tenth-ranked New England College for a conference game on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
