Marc Albu '08 and Max Akuamoah-Boateng '09 scored three goals apiece to help lead short-handed Hamilton College to a 10-7 non-league win against visiting Hartwick College at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 15.
Four Hamilton starters did not play due to injury or illness. The Continentals (5-6 overall) ended a three-game losing skid anyway. Hamilton has won five straight games against Hartwick and the Continentals lead the all-time series with 15 wins and nine losses.
Albu leads the team with 15 goals and 16 points. He also won 3 of 4 faceoffs. Akuamoah-Boateng had scored four goals in his previous 22 games at Hamilton, but found the back of the net three times on three shots on Tuesday night.
Kevin Coughlin '09 chipped in one goal, one assist and three ground balls. Peter Gerrity '09 added one goal and four ground balls. Alex Duncan '10 scored his first goal and won a faceoff. Andy Simon '09 notched his sixth goal this year. Rob Dickson '10 was credited with his first career assist and picked up three ground balls.
John-Henry Forster '08 collected four ground balls and Blake Hollinger '09 had three. Billy Haas '10 won 9 of 14 faceoffs as the Continentals won 13 of 19 as a team. Eli Leino '10 made 10 saves and earned his first collegiate win in his first career start in goal.
The Hawks (4-8) grabbed their first and only lead of the game 59 seconds into the first quarter. Coughlin and Akuamoah-Boateng scored the next two goals for a 2-1 advantage. Hartwick's second man-up goal -- 48 seconds into the second quarter -- tied the score at 3-3. The Hawks were 4-for-11 on extra-man opportunities.
Hamilton proceeded to score the next five goals to seize control of the contest. Akuamoah-Boateng put the Continentals up for good, 4-3, on a pass from Dickson wih 13:06 left in the second quarter. Akuamoah-Boateng also ended the run. His third goal of the game with 8:13 remaining in the third quarter made the score 8-3. Hartwick didn't get closer than three goals the rest of the game.
Hamilton held a 46-32 advantage in shots and a 34-24 edge in ground balls. The Continentals were 1-for-5 with the extra man. Hamilton hosts Rensselaer for a Liberty League game on Sunday, April 20, at 1 p.m. The Continentals' seven seniors will be honored that day.
