Ian Hildebrand '07 scored two goals and Anthony Tripicchio '06 recorded eight saves to lead Hamilton College to a 3-0 victory against host Vassar College in a Liberty League game on Oct. 8.
Hamilton improved to 3-1 in the league and 7-2 overall, while Vassar fell to 0-3 and 5-4. Hildebrand recorded the first multiple-goal game of his career and is tied for the team lead with six goals. He is tied with Greg Rogan '07, who also scored against Vassar.
Hildebrand scored his first goal at 9:14 in the first half, taking a pass from midfielder Nikle Guzijan '06, and kicking a hard line drive from the right side into the left corner of the goal. "I played it out wide, and the outside midfielders did their work. I was able to just put it away," Hildebrand explained.
Hildebrand's second goal, which was unassisted, came at 53:35. He came in from the left side and snuck the ball past the diving Brewers' goalkeeper. "I was lucky that the defenders didn't clear the ball," Hildebrand said.
Hamilton's final goal was scored at 73:09 by Rogan on a pass from Michael Signorelli '05. Rogan was able to go one-on-one with the keeper and put the ball into the right corner after pulling the goalie out of the net.
Vassar doubled the Continentals' shot total, 18-9. However, Tripicchio came into the game with a .74 goals against average, which is one of the best marks in the league. He has three shutouts this year.
"Vassar is a good team who ran hard," Hamilton coach Perry Nizzi said. "I think the key to the game was taking advantage of the opportunities that came our way. It's always big to beat a conference opponent on the road."
The Continentals will travel to Rensselaer for another league game on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m.
