Spencer Noon '13 scored the game's only goal and Lennard Kovacs '12 stopped all five shots he faced to lead nationally ranked No. 5 Amherst College to a 1-0 win against Hamilton College in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's Love Field on Sept. 24.
Amherst (5-0-0, 3-0-0 NESCAC) kept its unbeaten season intact. Today's contest was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Lord Jeffs got on the board early as Noon scored in the 17th minute. After firing a shot that was saved by Hamilton goalkeeper Eric Boole '13, Noon slotted the rebound past a diving Boole for his third goal of the season.
Boole finished with 9 saves for the Continentals. Amherst held a 20-12 shot advantage, while each team took five corner kicks.
The Continentals (1-3-1, 0-3-1) had several opportunities to tie the game late in the second half. With just under six minutes remaining, Frank Campagnano '12 received a centering pass and fired a left-footed shot just wide of the left post. Two minutes later, Buck Reynolds '15 sent a strong header from the penalty spot into the arms of Kovacs.
Hamilton hosts Wesleyan University for a NESCAC game on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2:30 p.m.
