Hamilton College swimmers recorded two event victories in the visiting Continentals' 165-116 dual meet loss against Amherst College at Pratt Pool on Jan. 3.

Jake DeConinck '11 won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.72. Steve Chaponis '10 was first in the 50 butterfly in 24.59 seconds.

DeConinck recorded two of the Continentals' seven runner-up finishes against Amherst. His time of 22.49 seconds in the 50 free and 47.66 seconds in the 100 free were both good for second place. Twin brother Chris DeConinck '11 was second in the 50 backstroke with a time of 26.50 seconds.

Both Bowie Sievers '11 and Jared Mereness '10 finished second twice. Sievers finished the 100 fly in 54.37 seconds and the 500 free in 4:56.63. Mereness registered a time of 28.76 seconds in the 50 breaststroke and went 1:03.35 in the 100 breast.

Hamilton travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where the Continentals will compete in the Copa Coqui Invitational later this week. The event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, Jan. 10.
