Men's tennis plays in St. Lawrence Fall Classic
Hamilton College's Ian Antonoff '16 reached the semifinals of his singles and doubles bracket at the St. Lawrence University Fall Classic, which was played on Sept. 14 and 15.
Antonoff defeated St. Lawrence's Marco Amendola, 6-1, 6-3 in the first round of the "B" singles flight and rallied past Ian Baranowski from the University of Rochester, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Rochester's Josh Jachuck defeated Antonoff, 6-3, 6-1 in Sunday's semifinal match.
Antonoff and Devin White '17 breezed to an 8-3 victory against an Ithaca College doubles team in the "B" flight quarterfinals on Saturday. They were edged 9-7 by a Rochester pair in the semifinals on Sunday.
Ben Swett '14 also advanced to the "B" singles semifinal round. Swett came from behind for a 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 win against Will Kauppila from St. Lawrence in the first round. Swett dispatched Ithaca's Brandon Buksbaum, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarters before he fell 6-2, 6-3 against Jonathan Baker from Rochester in the next round.
Jon Cohen '17 was a 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 winner against St. Lawrence's Rhonny Rosario in the first round of "A" singles. Cohen dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Matt Levine of Rochester in the quarters.
Burke Paxton '17 and Austin Lokre '16 won their first-round matches in "C" singles. Paxton prevailed 6-2, 6-3 against Ithaca's Nate Wolf but lost 6-2, 7-6 (5) against Ryan Zu of Rochester in the quarters. Lokre outlasted St. Lawrence's Matt Burke, 6-2, 1-6, 10-6 before he dropped a three-set decision to Joey Hanf of Ithaca, 6-3, 0-6, 10-8.
Nazareth College and Rochester Institute of Technology also competed in the event. Hamilton travels to Utica College and St. John Fisher College for non-conference matches on Sunday, Sept. 22.
